The Bentall Centre

The Bentall Centre opened its doors in November 1992, after the centre was lovingly developed in the pre-existing former ‘Bentalls’ Department Store footprint which was established in 1867. The Bentalls Department Store, now known as Fenwick was relocated to take the iconic flagship location at the rear of the centre.

Nuzzled between London and Surrey, Kingston-Upon-Thames is a stylish riverside town, boasting beautiful architecture, an ancient market and an eclectic arts scene, making it a perfect day out, whether your visiting as a family, with friends or loved ones there is something for everyone.

The Architecture

The centre was designed by architects IMA who developed the car park bridge and the majestic arched atrium that stands taller than the Dome at St Paul’s Cathedral. The design of the centre was made to incorporate the original buildings façade that was thoughtfully designed by Maurice Webb in 1935.

Getting to The Bentall Centre is hassle-free. Surrounded by well connected train lines, bus routes and major roads so you’re never far from the fun.

BY FOOT

The Bentall Centre is located in the heart of historic market town, Kingston upon Thames. There are 3 entrances to The Bentall Centre, located on Clarence Street, Fife Road and Wood Street. You can also access the shopping mall area from Bentalls Department Store.

BY CAR OR MOTORBIKE

The Bentall Centre has over 1,900 car parking spaces in three secure car parks. Kingston Town Centre is only 8 miles from the M25 motorway and is conveniently located for the M3, M4 and A3.  Motorcycle bays can be found in Car Park B. Find our more about parking at the Bentall Centre here.

BY BICYCLE

Kingston is on Route 4 of the National Cycle Network and is included in Transport for London’s cycle maps 9 &10. The Bentall Centre has secure bicycle parking in Car Park B Ground Floor. There is ample additional cycle parking in Kingston Town Centre.

BY TRAIN

Kingston rail station is only 25 minutes from London Waterloo. Kingston located within the TFL Zone 6, so you can use an Oyster Card or Zone 1-6 TravelCard. The Bentall Centre is just 3 minutes walk from Kingston station. Use the pedestrian crossing opposite the Cappadocia Restaurant, cross onto Fife road and follow the road round a gentle curve, you’ll then be in front of The Bentall Centre, Fife Road entrance.

BY BUS

More than 40 bus routes serve Kingston Town Centre. The nearest bus stops are outside the Wood Street entrance. Frequent services cover all parts of the borough, Greater London, Surrey and Heathrow Airport. Bus Route Maps from Kingston, click here.

BY TAXI

Kingston is well served by taxis with black cab ranks. The closest to The Bentall Centre is on Wood Street. Surbiton and Kingston Stations both have black cab ranks.

How to park

1. Enter the car park and park as normal
2. Be sure to remember your registration plate number
3. When you leave enter the number in to the parking machines and pay for parking
4. Arrive back at your car and leave with no need for a ticket!

Alternatively you can pay contact-free and avoid the queues via the GLIDE Parking App.

Glide Parking App

1. Enter the car park and parks as normal
2. During your stay download the GLIDE Parking App via the App Store, or Google Play.
3. Enter in your cars registration plate and your bank details
4. When you’re ready to leave simply arrive back to your car and leave the car park, payment will automatically be taken

Here at the Bentall Centre we take our environmental footprint seriously and are taking positive actions to reduce our waste and improve our efficiencies to keep Kingston greener.

We are proud of the movements we have made to be more sustainable.

Our 2021 Achievements:

* 76 tonnes of cardboard recycled 

* 1751 trees saved

*10.8 tonnes of food waste digested

* o% of waste sent to landfill

*  2,691,409 litres of water saved

* 728,913 kw of energy saved

*  100% renewable energy used

These savings across the centre were due partly to the Covid-19 lockdown, but also to new initiatives the centre has put in place.  These included;

• The introduction of an on-site Eco-Safe food digester which has eradicated food waste from the centre.  The digester breaks down all food and drink waste into a liquid which can be drained down the sewer line.  Treatment on-site means no trucks are required to collect and transport the food waste, saving on CO2 emissions and reducing our environmental impact.
• The installation of an energy-efficient pump which has reduced our energy output substantially.

But we are constantly trying to improve this and work tirelessly on our four key pillars in the ultimate goal to be green…
